The IRS sets the covered actions and exceptions in notice FL-2026-07, issued October 14, 2026. This gives extra time; it does not cancel tax debt or provide cash.

How to get it

Check Your Deadline, Then Use The IRS Relief

  1. Check your county, tax action and original or extended due date against the IRS notice. A property match alone does not establish tax eligibility.
  2. Relief is normally automatic for an IRS-identified covered address. For an outside-area exception, such as necessary records in the disaster area, call 866-562-5227.
  3. Complete covered actions by February 8, 2027. If a qualifying penalty notice arrives, call the number on the notice and keep your records.

2025 individual tax payments due April 15, 2026 are not postponed. Payroll/excise deposits have a separate October 26, 2026 penalty-abatement condition. Check the IRS notice before changing a payment date.

IRS release FL-2026-07, issued October 14, 2026, postpones covered deadlines falling on or after October 9, 2026 and before February 8, 2027, to February 8, 2027. The notice identifies FEMA declaration 3655-EM. This is extra time for covered tax actions, not a cash grant or tax-debt cancellation.

Covered taxpayers include residents and businesses, including tax-exempt organizations, with a principal place of business in the 27 listed counties. Certain outside-area taxpayers whose necessary records are in the area, recognized relief workers and visitors killed or injured by the disaster can also qualify. Contact IRS Special Services at 866-562-5227 about outside-area exceptions.

Most covered federal returns, estimated income-tax payments and other listed time-sensitive actions receive the postponement. The notice includes qualifying extended 2025 individual returns and payroll or certain excise returns normally due November 2, 2026 and February 1, 2027. Confirm your specific action and original or extended due date with the IRS or a tax professional.

The postponement does not cover 2025 individual income-tax payments due April 15, 2026, even when the return had an extension. Certain information returns, including many W-2 and 1099 filings, and employment/excise deposits are generally excluded unless specifically listed. Payroll/excise deposit penalties for deposits due October 9 through October 25 are abated only if paid by October 26, 2026; the February deadline does not replace that condition.

The IRS applies relief automatically when it identifies a covered address. For a late-filing or late-payment penalty notice with a qualifying due date, call the number on the notice to ask for abatement. Tax practitioners with necessary records for outside-area clients can use the IRS's bulk-request guidance where applicable.

The full notice also discusses uninsured or unreimbursed casualty losses, prior-return copy fees, qualified disaster payments and other relief under separate rules. For disaster-loss returns or fee-waiver requests, follow the IRS's instructions for declaration number 3655-EM. Installment agreements and direct debits continue; interest and late-payment penalties can still accrue. Ask a tax professional which additional provisions fit your circumstances.
